We care
The health of our customers and staff is of critical importance to us. We believe that without a committed intervention, championed by our leadership and our Wellness Champions, our employees and customers will be severely affected by this largely misunderstood virus.
Standard Bank Group has an extensive workplace programme that started in South Africa and expanded to the rest of our network across the African continent. We have not implemented the programme to be seen as socially conscious, we are aware of the implications HIVand AIDS has on the sustainable growth of the African continent which is the heart of our business.
Our internal health and wellness programme focuses on employees and their families. We estimate that our programme touches an estimated 160 000 lives. Its impact further reaches the broader community through interventions driven through our trained Wellness Champions; through individual employee outreach; through work we do with aid and donor agencies and governments, and our involvement in various private sector initiatives and public-private partnerships.
We are a key player in encouraging private sector cooperation on HIV and AIDS awareness and management in Africa, and are partners GBCHealth, the Pan African Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (www.pabcnetwork.org) and the South African Business Coalition on HIV/AIDS (www.sabcoha.org).
We are proud to partner organizations such as UNAIDS (www.unaids.org) and The Global Fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (www.theglobalfund.org). Together with The Global Fund, by providing pro-bono management training and practical support to recipients of grant receiving projects in six countries, we hope to make a meaningful difference to the sustainability of the continent with UNAIDS.
We are humbled by the national and international awards we have won for our HIV and Aids workplace programmes and our work with The Global Fund to fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
We are hoping that with every step we take we are progressing in the fight against HIV/AIDS and are making a decisive impact on human development in Southern Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa and the world.
